Dayspring Academy Middle School - New York City (2006-2007)

Our trip to NYC was a tremendous success. We started our trip with a visit to the Playwright Tavern for lunch. NBC studios was next; and who did we see exiting the building? Al Roker! We then moved on to an incredible tour of the United Nations building. We saw the General Assembly Room as well as attending some meetings that were in session.  All 192 flags of the UN members we displayed. After that, we had some Thai food or Italian food on restaurant row. We finished our first day with the performance of Wicked at the Gershwin theater-what a show!! Day two was our day to visit Battery Park, Liberty Island and Ellis Island. The ferries were fun and the statue is beautiful. Next stop, ground zero. What a moving experience. We hurried to catch the tour bus after that and headed to dinner in Times Square and then…Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum! We had so much fun there, we could have stayed all night. We made a quick stop at the hotel for warm clothes and then headed up 10 blocks and 88 flights to the top of the Empire State Building. The city is even more magnificent from up there. The wind was blowing so we did feel the sway. Day three began with a morning appearance on the Today show and a quick breakfast at Dean and DeLuca in Rockefeller Center. Did you know they are building a golf course there right where the Christmas tree stands? Next, we tickled the ivories at FAO Schwartz next to Central Park. No picnic that day, it was rainy and cold. Thank goodness for the free ponchos from the tour bus. We spent a few free hours shopping on Broadway and eating NY Pizza.
After that, we headed over to the airport, quite tired and content.

Thank you to our amazing chaperones!! What a great group! And thank you, students, for your excellent behavior, good manners and for a great time together.
